Biodados Laboratory

Our laboratory has as main objective the development of bioinformatics tools. Many of them allow you to answer the question of the song: 'If I know the genes of your body that the other animals also have, I know which is the youngest and oldest, I will know you as nobody.' In this way, we can see how a biochemical and immunological response, such as the response to interferon, forms throughout evolution, identifying (by color, in the figure) the human ancestors in which genes appear. We sometimes use pathways obtained from the literature or from pathways websites, but when they do not exist, we make them, such as the Ebola virus interaction pathway with the host cell, or the path of flowering, or formation of mammary glands. To do so, we use text mining software called PESCADOR. And with tools like TaxOnTree we observe the phylogeny of the gene and deduce the common ancestor.

The differential of our research is the ability to deal with big data, using databases, integration of data with other bases, etc., in order to form graduates with great possibility of being nucleated by their abilities. Our data sets have recently begun to involve gene expression data, identifying tissue-specific genes and regulatory networks in the chromatin. Also working on a large scale we studied the origin clade of all genes from a wide collection of Kegg regulatory pathways. We depicted local neighborhoods of large-scale SNPs at the SNP LANE database. Although the methodology is on bioinformatics, as it can be noticed, the subject of interest covers biochemistry, immunology and molecular biology.

Currently, our group consists of one student of scientific initiation, two masters and five doctoral students. There is always a possibility of positions in the group, so if you are interested in joining our research group, or if you need help in our expertises, please contact by Whatsapp: (31) 99164-5835.
